This could be possible either by disabling the X11-Input-Device dynamically (dont know if this is possilbe) or through a special function in the driver. For example by tipping the touchpad in the upper right and left corner with two fingers (as far as i know something like this is not yet implemented).

I had the same problem until I updated the Synaptics TouchPad driver. Are you sure you downloaded the 'latest' driver? If you are using an HP laptop, ignore their touchpad driver and go for the Synaptics one. It has an ugly bug (doesn't update the screen blank timer for the scrollpad), but works with Firefox.
